Take the Pledge for Women Veterans' Health!

Women Veterans deserve the same access to health care as everyone else. Join the fight.

According to the Journal of Military, Veterans and Family Health, women Veterans and women in uniform are more at risk for breast cancer than their civilian counterparts, with incidence rates falling between 20-40%, compared to 12% in civilian women.

Women’s health is a critical issue that affects every community, but women Veterans with disabilities face cruel challenges and barriers. By taking this pledge, you are committing to advocate for and support the health and well-being of women Veterans with disabilities. Disability doesn’t discriminate and most of us age into disability. Your pledge is a powerful step towards a more inclusive, equitable future where EVERY woman has access to the same quality care, resources, and equipment as everyone else.

More than Mammograms:

Inequalities in Healthcare for Women Veterans with Disabilities

Despite advances in medical science and technology, women Veterans with disabilities face significant barriers that can impact their access to and quality of healthcare. Here’s a closer look at these disparities and why they matter:

Image

Inaccessible Transportation

It can be challenging for people with disabilities to find accessible transportation to get to their medical appointments.

Image

Inaccessible Medical Facilities

Sometimes medical clinics and patient rooms are impossible to navigate in a wheelchair. Tammy faced this issue when she arrived at a mammogram appointment and couldn't enter the clinic.

Inaccessible Medical Equipment

Medical equipment such as weight scales, exam tables, and diagnostic equipment, is not always accessible for wheelchair users. That can make it challenging for people with mobility disabilities to get prompt care.
