More than Mammograms:
Inequalities in Healthcare for Women Veterans with Disabilities
Despite advances in medical science and technology, women veterans with disabilities face significant barriers that can impact their access to and quality of healthcare. Here’s a closer look at these disparities and why they matter:

Inaccessible Transportation
It can be challenging for people with disabilities to find accessible transportation to get to their medical appointments.

Inaccessible Medical Facilities
Sometimes medical clinics and patient rooms are impossible to navigate in a wheelchair. Tammy faced this issue when she arrived at a mammogram appointment and couldn't enter the clinic.

Inaccessible Medical Equipment
Medical equipment such as weight scales, exam tables, and diagnostic equipment, is not always accessible for wheelchair users. That can make it challenging for people with mobility disabilities to get prompt care.
