Planned Giving
Why give in your will?- Continue to use assets or property during your lifetime
- Potentially reduce your estate tax burden
- Leave a lasting legacy for Veterans
Through a simple provision in your will, you may make a gift to Paralyzed Veterans of America. This is the easiest and most common type of planned gift. Making a bequest is an excellent choice if you want to maintain control of your assets during your lifetime and support PVA in the future.
We can work with you and your advisors to craft specific bequest language that accurately reflects your gift intentions.
What if I don’t have a will?Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) partners with FreeWill, to offer an online estate planning tool that makes creating a will or trust easy and cost-free. Stocks and Securities
Donating appreciated assets like stocks, securities, or mutual funds can help you bypass capital gains taxes. Additionally, if you’ve held the assets for over a year, you may also qualify for an income tax deduction.
- Gifts of assets can often save you far more on taxes than gifts of cash.
- Avoid all capital gains taxes.
- Receive an income tax deduction for the value of the assets (if you’ve had them for more than a year).
- Make an immediate impact helping Veterans.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers a unique opportunity for individuals aged 70½ or older to donate up to $100,000 directly from their IRA to a charity. This strategy not only supports the causes they care about but also helps them avoid paying income tax on the donated amount.
- Transfer gifts from your IRA directly to PVA free of income tax.
- Can be applied toward your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
- Beneficial for individuals who do not itemize deductions on their income tax.
- Withdrawals are not subject to annual charitable deduction limitations.
- Instruct your IRA provider to distribute funds directly to PVA.com.
- Enjoy the benefit of a tax-free distribution from your IRA, contributing towards your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
- Potentially reduce tax liability by excluding the distribution amount from taxable income.

Revocable Living Trust
Plan Your Legacy. Amplify Your Impact.A living trust, also known as a revocable living trust or a family trust, is a legal document that holds title or ownership to your real property and assets. When you create a revocable living trust, you transfer ownership of your assets to the trust. Transferring assets is typically called "funding." When you transfer title you DO NOT relinquish any control. You can still buy, sell, borrow or transfer.
To many, the living trust looks a lot like a will. It includes the details and instructions for how you want your estate to be handled at your death. Unlike a will, the benefits of a properly funded trust include:
- Avoids probate delays and costs: Allows for an efficient transfer of assets to both heirs and charitable organizations.
- Maintains your privacy: Your charitable gifts remain confidential.
- Flexible and revocable: You may cancel or modify your charitable plans anytime during your lifetime.
- Ensures your wishes are honored: You control how and when charitable gifts are made, even after your passing.
- Supports ongoing giving: Allows you to structure long-term charitable support through a trust-managed donation schedule.
- May reduce state estate taxes: Charitable gifts through a trust can potentially lower the taxable value of your estate.
