MEET ARMY VETERAN AND PVA MEMBER DANIEL

Daniel was injured in 1987 during a special operation in Honduras and now requires 24/7 care as a C4 quadriplegic. Daniel recalls being introduced to PVA by a National Service Officer named Danny while recovering in a VA hospital.

Danny said, "I need you to get involved in a great organization called the PVA." I said, "Well, tell me more about it." And he told me everything about PVA and enrolled me. And I've been with PVA since initial injury in 1987."

PVA works with the VA to provide resources and support for paralyzed and disabled Veterans like Daniel to get the help they need, including access to caregivers and adaptable equipment for homes and vehicles.  "I can tell you this, if I didn't have caregivers, I'd probably be in a nursing home," Daniel says.

Fortunately, because of the programs and service that PVA provides with help from the VA and generous supporters, not only is Daniel able to stay in his home with his family, but he is able to compete in sports programs and find community as a part of PVA's San Antonio Chapter. "It feels good, too, when you're on a power soccer team full of Veterans, and you're out there, and you can win."

Daniel competes in five events during the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, which PVA hosts annually in partnership with the VA. Daniel was also a member of the USA Boccia National team in 2024.
