PVA FIGHTS FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESS AT U.S. CAPITOL

PVA members visiting the U.S. Capitol for meetings.

PVA members often visit the Capitol to meet with lawmakers and testify in front of Congress. PVA’s Chief Policy Heather Ansley gave testimony in May 2021 highlighting the lack of wheelchair-accessible drop-off and pick-up zones around the Capitol, which makes it challenging for PVA members and other people with disabilities to get to their meetings. At the beginning of December, a House committee requested “a preliminary study to identify possible drop off and pick up locations on level ground”. Our concerns have been heard, and change is underway!

This is just one example of PVA's advocacy in action. To keep up with the status of PVA’s policy priorities in 2024, please join PVAction Force.

RUGBY TEAMS FACE OFF AT PVA TOURNAMENT

Four wheelchair rugby players look intently to the side as the ball passes by.

Eighteen wheelchair rugby teams are currently battling for the Code of Honor Cup in Louisville, Kentucky at PVA's seventh annual Wheelchair Rugby Invitational.

Wheelchair rugby is a hard hitting, fast paced sport designed for athletes with disabilities affecting all four limbs, such as quadriplegia. The combination of strategy and physicality makes it an exciting sport for both players and spectators. Learn more about the wide range of Sports programs we offer at PVA.

PVA's statement on accessible drop-off zones coming to Capitol Hill (PR NewsWire)

PVA has led the fight for accessibility for decades, and accessibility at the U.S. Capitol is no different. Coming to Capitol Hill for a congressional visit, hearing, or other event presents barriers for PVA members and others with disabilities. PVA has worked hard to shed light on this issue and call for change.
