Paralyzed Veterans of America recognized as finalist for U.S. Chamber Foundation’s 8th Annual Hiring Our Heroes Awards

WASHINGTON (November 15, 2018) — Last night, Paralyzed Veterans of America was recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation as a finalist for the 8th Annual Hiring Our Heroes Wounded Veteran and Military Caregiver Employment Award. Paralyzed Veterans of America was among 24 finalists nominated for an award for demonstrated leadership in addressing the challenges faced by veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and military caregivers in their search for meaningful employment.

“We are incredibly proud that Paralyzed Veterans of America’s employment program, PAVE, was selected by Hiring Our Heroes as a finalist for this award,” said Lauren Lobrano, director of PAVE. “We have a fantastic team of employment analysts and vocational rehabilitation counselors who work one-on-one with the most complex cases – including catastrophically wounded veterans – to help them identify their unique value and find meaningful employment where they can thrive. The finalists and winners in each award category were recognized during the 8th Annual Lee Anderson Hiring Our Heroes Awards Gala, presented by USAA, at the U.S. Chamber.

“The individuals and organizations recognized as finalists for this year’s awards exemplify what it means to be not just military friendly, but military ready,” said Eric Eversole, a vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and president of Hiring Our Heroes. “These organizations have raised the bar across industries and across the country, implementing innovative approaches to recruit, hire, and retain veteran and military spouse talent.”

The Hiring Our Heroes awards are given in six categories: Veteran and Military Spouse Employment; Post-9/11 Veteran Employment; Wounded Veteran and Military Caregiver Employment; Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring; Small Business Veteran and Military Spouse Employment; and Individual Leadership. This year’s award winners were:

Lee Anderson Veteran and Military Spouse Employment Awardfor overall excellence in hiring and retaining veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses in the private sector: Deloitte

Steve Robinson Post-9/11 Veteran Employment Awardfor effective and sustained efforts to enhance the ability of post-9/11 veterans and transitioning service members to find meaningful employment: Amazon

Wounded Veteran and Military Caregiver Employment Awardfor demonstrated leadership in addressing the unique challenges and demands for wounded, ill, and injured veterans as well as military caregivers in their search for meaningful employment: Dog Tag Inc.

Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring Awardfor demonstrated hiring, mentorship, and support of military spouses in their search for meaningful employment: Microsoft

Small Business Award for Veteran and Military Spouse Employmentfor demonstrated leadership by a small business or organization (less than 500 employees) in hiring veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses: Flags of Valor

Colonel Michael Endres Leadership Award for Individual Excellence in Veteran Employmentfor an individual who has gone above and beyond to make a difference in employment opportunities for veterans, transitioning service members, and spouses: Sean Kelly, Director of Talent Acquisition for Worldwide Operations at Amazon

Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment through more than 1,100 job fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and on military installations overseas; a suite of free online career-based resources; and the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign.
